As any major prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for the addition of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
- Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
- Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
